Emigrant Trail Museum

I promised Maggie we would visit Truckee and Donner Lake when she finished the book, Patty Reed's Doll. Although it is a sad story, The Donner Party is an interesting part of history. Because we love pioneer history, I knew Maggie would love it! I surprised her with a replica of the real Patty Reed's Doll...she was pleased. Look closely at the monument Maggie is standing in front of. The stone base is 22 feet tall...that's how much snow fell that fateful winter of 1846.

After we toured the Emigrant Museum we took the little interpretive trail to see Alder Lake and where the different cabins used to be while the remaining families of the Donner Party waited out the long, cold winter...kinda sad.
We saw a lot of beautiful butterflies and wildflowers...I can only imagine how it must look in the spring.
